Amir Cherni's Skull Lounge is not just another interior design project. It is a testament to the power of innovative design and the transformative potential of industrial waste. The design, which is inspired by post-apocalyptic movies and industrial workspaces, is a unique blend of raw, unfinished aesthetics and comfort. The Skull Lounge was awarded Platinum in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to its exceptional and highly innovative design.
The Skull Lounge is a sprawling 1000 square meter space, designed to immerse clients in an environment completely unfamiliar to the urban lifestyle. The circular sofas around fire pits create a warm, intimate focal point for gatherings, while the use of industrial waste for decorative objects adds a unique touch to the design. The design intentionally challenges the norms of interior design, proudly displaying the building materials that many try to conceal.
Cherni's design was realized using Autodesk 3ds Max and Vray as the main rendering engine. The project started in March 2017 as a 3D concept and after the publication of the project's visualizations, investors showed interest in adapting the design to an abandoned metal factory in Russia. The project was published in Autodesk Area and secured the second place in the Artist of the Year competition as one of the best 3D Artworks of 2018.
The design process was not without its challenges. The primary challenge was creating a relaxed atmosphere in a post-apocalyptic design. However, Cherni successfully overcame this challenge, creating a design that is not only visually stunning but also comfortable and inviting. The design also serves as a reminder of the ecological footprint of humans, encouraging visitors to be more aware of their impact on the environment.
Amir Cherni's Skull Lounge is a shining example of the power of innovative design. It is a testament to Cherni's creativity and his ability to transform industrial waste into a work of art. The Skull Lounge is more than just a design project; it is a statement about the potential of design to transform spaces and challenge norms.
